1 week down, 11 to go!
So I've survived a whole week, but have been ill for most of it! The afore mentioned problems seem to have been resolved on the whole, but I now have a nasty cold and I have had trouble eating any amount of food for the last 4 days! So far has been a very interesting experience. I'm off to Morning Star (the orphanage) tomorrow for 2-3 weeks, so I'll get to see a different side of life here. It may also mean that I can't get online much as I'm not sure if they're hooked up there- so don't panic if you here nothing for a while. Wish I could have seen more of the city while I've been here, but I think it's better that I stayed near home. I will be back here for at least a couple of weeks so after this, so I should get to visit some more places- both in Kathmandu and around the valley- I have a list as long as my arm of stuff I want to do! One thing I have visited is Durbar Square. This is the home of loads of temples to various things (gods,alcohol, hippies(?!)), cows, holy men, and the Kumari (living goddess)! Starting sometime soon (have been told yesterday, today and tomorrow- don't you love Nepal time?!) is a festival to celebrate the end of the monsoon, in which she is pulled around the city on chariot. Beer also flows out of the mouth of the god on the side of the alcohol temple and if you get a sip it will bring good luck. If you get the fish thats also in there then you're even luckier! Unfortunately will miss most of it, but I've heard rumors that it won't be as big this year due to problems with the Maoists. On a totally unrelated note realised this is probably the longest I've spent in one place (except Narwich obviously) for quite a while- my holidays for the last few years have all involved moving about every couple of days! 10:50 AM Comment (4) ...
